Frances Bearne,

Founder + Director of Human Focus Consulting + International Certified Coach

With over two decades of experience, Frances is a skilled executive, leadership and career coach as well as a high-performance team coach and strategic people and capability consultant.

Frances is passionate about cutting through traditional HR bureaucracy and created Human Focus Consulting to provide businesses with a fresh and innovative approach to people and culture management.

Frances has worked with clients from various industries, including finance, research and development, I.T., engineering, freight and logistics, government and construction both in New Zealand and overseas. She has held senior HR positions and commercial roles in sales and management.

Frances is an internationally certified leadership and team coach, accredited in Hogan Assessment Systems and is a trained conflict management coach through the Australian and New Zealand Resolution Institute.

When she isn’t working, Frances enjoys travelling, anything to do with the outdoors and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Chris Broadbent

Principal People + Capability Consultant

Chris is a highly experienced People and Capability Consultant with a depth of experience across strategic HR management, employment, and industrial relations, change management, leadership and governance.


Over the past two decades, Chris has worked with organisations across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, both in New Zealand and internationally, including Australia, USA, Europe, and North Africa. Chris believes that in order to be effective, the human resources function must create value for organisations, by operating as a key enabler, ensuring that its people are a key competitive advantage. His depth and range of experience means he is able to support and enhance organisations to get the best out of their HR function and, ultimately, its people.

Chris applies insight and experience in providing assessment and implementing solutions and strategies for people-related challenges and opportunities. He has a calm and unruffled approach to work and relates easily with people from all walks of life, from executive leaders to coal-face workers. He is skilled in directly dealing with complexity and conflict and loves to solve a tricky problem.

Ann Lake

Senior People + Capability Consultant

Ann is a highly experienced and degree-qualified professional who began her career in counselling before transitioning into People & Culture Management. With over 20 years of experience, Ann has had great success transforming various organisations' people programmes across several industries, including IT, health, trades, construction, social services, and transport.


Ann is adept at building long-term relationships with her clients, sharing her knowledge and coaching leaders at all levels in both large and medium-sized businesses. She possesses commercial acumen and a robust understanding of best business practices.


Ann excels in working with high-growth organisations and specialises in developing people and culture frameworks, including talent management, onboarding, performance management, and training and development. Ann has a passion for employment relations and is adept at providing value-added services to leaders in complex situations.


As a Co-Founder and Director of a successful IT start-up, Ann knows how to balance her understanding of people with the practical needs of businesses.

Cecile Woods

Career + Outplacement Coach

Cecile Woods has charted a unique 20-year career path that bridges organisational psychology, business, and coaching. This exploration and a growing interest in coaching sparked her curiosity, propelling her towards a career in Career and Outplacement Coaching.

Her focus is uncovering blind spots, clarifying career direction, and instilling positive habits. Cecile works closely with clients, helping them set inspiring goals and navigate their desired changes.

Cecile supports individuals with outplacement coaching which includes reviewing CV’s, crafting compelling cover letters, optimising LinkedIn profiles, interview preparation coaching, goal setting and strength analysis and clarification.

Armed with a business degree (double major in International Business and HR), Cecile also holds an international coaching accreditation and an accreditation in 360-degree feedback with Human Synergistics.

Nothing excites Cecile more than working one-on-one with individuals, unlocking their potential, and propelling them toward positive outcomes.

Vanessa Moselen

Executive Assistant 

As our Executive Assistant, Vanessa’s purpose is to provide valuable administrational support to Frances and the Human Focus Team. Using her sharpened organisational skills, passion for systems and previous experience as a PA, Vanessa is a savvy problem solver and detailed proofreader, offering creative solutions along the way. Vanessa has a pragmatic and down to earth approach and she enjoys building strong relationships and working as a trusted support member.

With a background of over a decade supporting business’ with their administration, account management and all the niggly jobs in-between, she excels in driving efficiencies, developing processes and harnessing technology to make life easier. Vanessa’s expertise and dedication ensures efficient and seamless workflow for Frances and the business. 

On weekends, Vanessa can be found dashing between netball courts or exploring new adventures with her family and friends.
